$150,000 Pay Raise Offered to MSU President

The Montana Board of Regents said Thursday they are ready to offer Montana State University President Waded Cruzado a $150,000 pay raise to keep her from leaving for another university job that would pay even more.  That would bring her salary up to $476,524.  That would make her the highest paid person in the Montana university system and the highest paid state employee.  Cruzado said she has another offer in hand but doesn't want to leave MSU.  She is finishing her 10th year at MSU and is the ... read more

Montana State Sets All-Time Enrollment Record

Montana State University’s fall student enrollment is the largest in its 130-year history, with 16,978 students pursuing the many benefits of higher education at the state’s largest university.  The new enrollment is up 2% over last fall’s headcount, an increase of 290 students. MSU’s previous enrollment record of 16,902 was set in the fall of 2018. This fall, enrollment for Montana State University is near its record level of 16,906 students set in 2018.  This fall, their attendance is 16,688 students.  Also this fall, they reported their second largest incoming freshman class of 3,752 students.  1,401 of those students were from Montana.  Of their total enrollment, almost half, 8,227 were from Montana.  Their retention rate for students returning for their 2nd year is 75.2%.  Part of the MSU fall enrollment is Gallatin College s... read more

Montana State University Has 5th Highest Fall Enrollment

The fall enrollment for Montana State University is the 5th highest in history.  There were 16,249 students enrolled this fall.  A dip of 3% over the 2019 fall enrollment but MSU considers that a win with the current COVID-19 situation and having a blend of in-person and virtual online classes this year.  Their retention rate (students that return for a 2nd year) hit a 30 year high of 78% and the 4 year graduation rate climbed 5% to 34.7%.  This fall is also different by not having football.&nbs... read more

MSU Again a U.S. Top Research University

Montana State University regained the Carnegie ranking as one of 130 universities nationwide with "very high research activity."  MSU had this classification from 2006 to 2015.  In 2015 the Carnegie classification system changed and MSU made it a priority to regain this classification.  The 2018 Carnegie classifications are based on research activity, number of graduate programs, number of graduate degrees awarded and other factors.  MSU reported spending an all-time record $130.8 million on res... read more
