Name the new Bozeman High School

The new Bozeman High School transition committee is seeking names for the new high school set to open in 2020.  People can send in names online on the Bozeman School District web site until 5 pm on Feb 5, 2019.  The transition committee will narrow down the list but the final decision will be up to the Bozeman School Board.  Some elementary schools were named after famous writers - Emerson, Irving, Hawthorne, Longfellow, Whittier, and poet Emily Dickenson.  Two middle schools after Native Americ... read more

Proposed Logging Project South of Bozeman

The Montana Land Board will meet next week to decide on the DNRC proposed Limestone West Timber Sale.  The area affected starts by the popular Triple Tree hiking trail south of Bozeman and goes east towards Mt Ellis covering 443 acres of land.  Approximately the first mile of forest is state school trust land and they have an obligation to raise the most funds possible for schools.  The proposed timber sale could bring in $376,000.  It would largely harvest dead or dying trees from bark beetle a... read more

Bozeman's New High School Boundary Proposals

The Bozeman High School Transition Committee has narrowed 5 proposed boundary lines for the new high school down to two.  Both options divide the city east and west.  Option B follows 19th Ave and Option D takes a more zig-zag line from NE to SW through Bozeman.  Below are the two proposed boundary lines and a chart with demographic data on each option.  The School Board will likely vote on the proposed boundary lines at its meeting in two weeks.  Public comments can be emailed to... read more

New Heebs Fresh Market to Open January 17th

After more than three years of planning, Heebs Grocery is slated to open at its new location.  Heebs will close its location at 544 E Main St on Sunday January 13th and reopen Thursday January 17th at 200 Highland Blvd with a new name - Heebs Fresh Market.  The new market will be more than double the size of the old location, going from about 10,000 sqft to 26,500 sqft.  The new store put more emphasis on fresh foods, especially in the deli.  There will lunch, dinners and whole meal replacements... read more

MSU Again a U.S. Top Research University

Montana State University regained the Carnegie ranking as one of 130 universities nationwide with "very high research activity."  MSU had this classification from 2006 to 2015.  In 2015 the Carnegie classification system changed and MSU made it a priority to regain this classification.  The 2018 Carnegie classifications are based on research activity, number of graduate programs, number of graduate degrees awarded and other factors.  MSU reported spending an all-time record $130.8 million on res... read more
