Governor Bullock Prevents Rental Evictions or Foreclosures

Posted: April 01, 2020 by Mark L. Corner

On Monday March 30th, Governor Steve Bullock signed an order preventing rental tenants from getting evicted during the dates of his Stay At Home order which goes until April 10th.

A landlord can not:

  • Evict you for non-payment of rent
  • Charge any late fees, penalties or interest
  • refuse to renew or extend your rental contract
  • increase your rent
  • terminate any utilities to your unit
  • Or report and late payments to a credit bureau
This order also prevents any foreclosure action from a lender.

The Governor was clear, this does not relieve you of your financial obligation to pay your rent or landlords obligation to pay their mortgages.  But the Governor felt it was important to make sure everyone has a home during his Stay At Home order.
